Igor Bezinović

As he considers documentary film a part of his social activism, he usually explores social topics, advocacy for disenfranchised groups and social conflicts.

Igor Bezinović was born in Rijeka in 1983. He obtained his degree in Philosophy, Sociology and Comparative Literature from the Zagreb Faculty of Philosophy, as well as Film and TV Directing from the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Besides his feature-length documentary The Blockade that took him more than two years to edit from over 200-hour-long footage, Bezinović also made other documentaries, of which we can single out here Above Average, made during his studies at the Zagreb Academy of Drama Art. Above Average won Audience Award at ZagrebDox. It was also shown on MedFilm Festival in Rome and Skena Up in Prishtina. Bezinović was a member of the juries of Mediterranean Film Festival in Rome and ZagrebDox.

Above Average was the best rated Croatian film at ZagrebDox by audience vote. Among other festivals, it was shown at MedFilm Festival in Rome and Skena Up in Prishtina. Bezinović was a member of the juries of Mediterranean Film Festival in Rome and ZagrebDox. He cooperated with Subversive Film Festival and is a permanent collaborator of Restart Association and a member of -/+ Collective.

To him, screenings of his films are primarily a chance to meet and talk to audience and protagonists, thus expanding to their social impact. Besides in cultural magazines (Ljetopis, Gordogan, Zarez and Re), Bezinović also writes in sociological and philosophical publications (Diskrepancija, Revija za sociologiju and Čemu).
