Tomislav Rukavina

Tomislav Rukavina is today a director of successful TV series. In the late 1990s, he co-directed (together with his colleagues Dalibor Matanić and Stanislav Tomić) three unforgettable documentary films of a specific humor and esthetics: ''Metropolis'', ''BAG'' and ''Good Luck!''.

Tomislav Rukavina (Zagreb, 1975) graduated in Film and TV Directing from the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Art. Together with Nikola Ivanda, he won Oktavijan Award for Best Musical Video in 1998 (White Xmas). In the late 1990s, he co-directed (together with his colleagues Dalibor Matanić and Stanislav Tomić) three documentary films of a specific humor and esthetics.

These are Metropolis (1998), an omnibus film about the people living on the margins of society in Zagreb; BAG (1999), a film about the life in small Croatian town of Karlobag; and Good Luck! (1999), a film about the Labin coal mine being transformed into an art center. All three films were well received at festivals and critics recognized joyfulness and unconventionality as their distinguishing features. Metropolis won Audience Award at F.R.K.A. 1998 Student Film Festival and Good Luck! won Kodak Award for Cinematography at Motovun Film Festival 1999. Good Luck! and BAG also won Jury's Special Mentions for Cinematography at the Days of Croatian Film 1999.

In 2000, Tomislav Rukavina directed Dreamscape, a film for a 360º screen, shown at EXPO 2000 in Hannover. After 2006, Rukavina switches to directing TV series such as Theater at Home, Good Intentions, Zakon!, Dolina sunca, Home Sweet Home, Blonde Diaries, Under a Lucky Star and Lara's Choice. In 2012, he directed his first feature-length fiction film, Lara's Choice: the Lost Prince.
