The Dox in School: Screening is a natural continuation of the activities of the Factum association through its film production, but also distribution through the world-renowned documentary festival ZagrebDox. Factum's rich filmography, which includes about a hundred titles created over the last almost thirty years, is full of films that are valuable, almost indispensable in reflecting on contemporary Croatian and European society. These films, but also films from other productions, are being shown in high schools throughout Croatia through the Dox in School program. As a preparation for watching the film, and then its analysis, evaluation and deepening of knowledge, Factum prepares accompanying didactic materials as an incentive and assistance to teachers and other school staff.

The Dox at School: Workshop connects several aspects of modern digital everyday life. Today, anyone who owns a so-called smartphone can make a film without too much trouble. Programs and applications for recording, editing and post-production of images and sound are incorporated into social networks themselves, so the Dox at School workshop relies heavily on them. The idea is very simple: to give participants basic instructions on how to make a documentary film, both technically and in terms of content. Participants are then invited to share their work on social networks, and the most successful group of students (up to a maximum of four students per film) will, in the opinion of the organizers, be awarded a visit to ZagrebDox and Factum gift packages.

The workshop, through its method of implementation and its very concept, reconciles several extremely important aspects of working with students: they are encouraged to engage actively in creativity, they are given examples of good practice, they have some of the most important Croatian filmmakers as advisors, the platform on which they work (social networks) is redefined as a place of creation rather than passive absorption, and no less important is the fact that they are directed towards group work, which is the basis of film expression.

It is also very important that as a motivational factor there is a clear vision of the award that includes the less important – a gift package from Factum production (T-shirts, bags, sweets and cosmetic items) – and the much more important: a visit and introduction to the work of one of the most important Croatian film festivals. ZagrebDox is just one of about forty world festivals whose films directly compete for the annual European Film Academy award in the documentary film category. Visitors and fans of ZagrebDox have the opportunity to see in cinemas what they rarely have the opportunity to do – contemporary, latest creative documentary films by the world's most important authors.

The Dox at School workshop continues with the screening part, but its focus is on transferring knowledge to young people. Good examples from the shown documentaries clearly show how a great film can be made without excessive technical requirements, but with a clear, elaborate idea that is inspired by the everyday life in which students live. Instructions and guidance for making a short documentary film serve as a creative stimulus for thematizing their own interesting stories and events. Students receive instructions on how to make a documentary, and have the opportunity to hear live advice from prominent Croatian documentarians with whom Factum has worked during its two and a half decades of successful activity. And finally – at the end of their film journey, the best of them expect to come to ZagrebDox.

This both really and symbolically completes the circle of documentary life and work in Croatia. From a good film that inspires through one's own idea and film venture to one of the world's most important documentary festivals!
