Annika was born in Helsinki in 1971. She graduated from the Swedish Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Helsinki in 1996. From 1007 to 1999 she worked as the producer of Youth News on the Finnish Television (YLE).  Annika made her first film, Neighbors, in 2000, while attending the documentary workshop at the Grožnjan Imaginary Academy. Having obtained her master's degree in Documentary Film and Dramaturgy at the Ljubljana Academy of Theater, Film and Television, Annika returned to Finland and continued her work on film.
