Miroslav Sikavica was born in Zagreb in 1975. He grew up in Novi Zagreb, surrounded by the late-socialist architecture of  workers' dormitories and skyscrapers. His childhood was marked by racing bicycles, Commodore 64, Alan Ford comics and VCR and adolescence by Neil Young music and magical realism. He obtained his degree in Directing from the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Art and in Comparative Literature from the Zagreb Faculty of Philosophy.

He directed fiction films Mrs Before (2006) and The Fall (2002) and around thirty documentary films, most of which were made as part of Fade-In's documentary serial Direct, dedicated to the problems of youth, civil society and human rights. Some of these films, Eenie, Meenie, Miney, Mo (2006), High-school Graduates' Guide to the Galaxy (2008) and Castles in the Air (2009), were selected in the Fade-In retrospective program of ZagrebDox. In his latest film, The Cloud, Sikavica follows the family and friends of Luka Ritz, a Zagreb teenager who died after brutal beating in his neighborhood. Combining the protagonists' memories, footage of their get-togethers in honor of Luka Ritz and archive materials and approaching the theme with subtlety and care, Sikavica makes an intimate portrait of a young man whose cheerful spirit, charm and optimism keep inspiring people even after his death.

His short fiction film The Beast premiered in Director's Fortnight competition at 2016 Cannes Film Festival and won special mention.
