''Behind the Looking Glass'' at 42nd International Film Festival Rotterdam

''Behind the Looking Glass'', Jagoda Kaloper’s documentary self-portrait produced by Factum was selected for the Signals Regained programme of the 42nd International Film Festival Rotterdam.

The documentary film Behind the Looking Glass, directed by Jagoda Kaloper and produced by Factum, was selected in the programme of one of the most important European festivals – the International Film Festival Rotterdam – whose 42nd edition takes place 23 January – 3 February 2013.

Behind the Looking Glass was selected for the programme Signals Regained, a selection dedicated to the exploration of the nature of film and film heritage from a contemporary perspective. It presents rarely screened classics and masterpieces of film avant-garde, as well as documentary films concerning film art per se.

Behind the Looking Glass is a cinematic self-portrait, a combination of sequences made between 1965 and recently and portraying the author through other people’s eyes, and introspective videos made by the author herself throughout the last decade. Jagoda Kaloper, a versatile visual artist, actress and filmmaker received the Museum of Contemporary Art 2010 Award for Behind the Looking Glass.

The film will be screened in the section named To recite and recycle, to recollect and reflect, together with the documentaries A Pervert’s Guide to Ideology directed by Sophie Fiennes, in which famous Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek expounds and interprets his favourite film moments and Final Cut: Ladies and Gentlemen by Hungarian director György Pálfi. A common trait of all the selected works is that they work with existing film material, but using different cinematic syntax.

The International Film Festival Rotterdam is one of the most significant film festivals in the world, providing an insight into a wide spectrum of films whose authors are either talented debut directors or already acclaimed filmmakers.
