Lana Šarić was born in Zagreb in 1963. She graduated in dramaturgy from the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Art. Her drama The Dolphin, the Cancer and the Swallow won the Vice-Chancellor's Award in 2004. She writes for theater and television and she directs theatrical productions. In 2005, she had her debut as dramatist with Iphigenia, directed by Ivica Šimić and performed by Mala Scena Theater. She directed the drama Flesh in &TD Theater in 2005.
Most of her dramas were played on the Channel 3 of Croatian Radio. She adapted novels Zoe and White Clown for children (2007). Her drama Skyscraper won the third Marin Držić Award. It was played on Croatian Radio and was also read at Playwrights Slam in Australia. Her script After Party was awarded at Branko Bauer Competition in 2007. She is one of the founders of the Croatian drama web portal Drame.hr.
Bravely and in an artistically mature way, in her film-directing debut Category: Optimist Lana Šarić deals with her own disease and its consequences. This unique film wins audience with its optimism, even in the toughest of situations.
